My Duties with USS
Brinkley Bass
Sept 1971 - Jul 1972
In Sep 1971 USS Brinkley Bass (DD 887) replaced the
USS Ulhmann (DD-687) as reserve ship in Tacoma WA. As a
member of the SelRes I
continued to drill every third weekend.
Sept 1971 I was
advanced to STG2 (E-5)
In the spring of 1972
a new reserve ship, an Ocean Mine Sweeper (MSO) was assigned
to Tacoma. The SelRes Commanding Officer (PCO) was
filling out the SelRes crew and invited me to join. I
knew nothing of mine sweeping sonar, but it sounded
interesting.
May 1972 I transferred to the SelRes crew of USS Implicit
(MSO-455).
