Tiger
Cruise
A "Tiger" is a
friend or relative, over 9 years old, who joins a
ship on its final leg of a deployment.
When I was on
active duty with the Pacific Fleet, ships returning from
WestPac could pick up Tigers in Pearl Harbor where they would join the
ship for the final leg to the west coast of the US.
During the
trip, Tigers would visit various departments, tour working spaces and
participate in Damage Control, Gunnery and other
demonstrations and exercises. Many Tigers would even take their
hand at
standing watches with their sponsor.
It is a fun way
for sailors to share their "Navy life" with their
friends and family.
