Born: Sept 21, 1945 In Poughkeepsie NY, the first son of Warren Husted and Mildred Smith.  His father was stationed with the Army in Columbia SC and his mother returned home for the birth, which was common practice at the time.

In Aug 1951 his father was transferred to Ft Lewis, near Tacoma WA where his family decided to settled.

At 8 yr. he joined Cub Scout Pack 53 at Little Church on the Prairie. Continuing in Boy Scouts he earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1961. He remained active in Scouting as a leader until 1968.

He graduated from Clover Park High School in Jan 1965.

He enlisted in the US Naval Reserve while still in High School and upon graduation served on active duty and served aboard ship on combat duty in Vietnam.

Married Judith Elaine Heckard on Oct 12, 1970.  They had two children, Christopher Lee Husted (Apr 12, 1971) and Trenton James Husted (July 9, 1976)  They divorced Nov 15, 1984.

Between 1972 and 1977  Richard and Judith lived in Bellingham WA where he worked for various employers including the Bellingham Airport and the County Road Dept.  In 1976 he returned to active duty with the Navy.  He served in the Gulf War in 1990 and  went on to become the lead instructor and Division Officer of the navigation school at Fleet Training Center, San Diego.  He retired from the Navy in 1996 with the rank of QMC (Quartermaster Chief Petty Officer)

He married Lynne Dye (former Elizabeth Lynne Schaefer) a childhood sweetheart, on Jun 8, 1985.

They reside in Spanaway WA where they operate a horse boarding stable and collectable toy store.
